Chelsea’s Premier League title bid will be put on a stern test at the beginning of 2017. Antonio Conte’s men travel to White Hart Lane on the back of 13 Premier league wins on the trot and will be looking to extend their winning run against the invigorated Tottenham Hotspur who are coming off from four straight league wins.

Tottenham

Consistency has been the main problem for last season’s title contenders Tottenham Hotspur, who are struggling to replicate their fantastic form from the 2015-16 season. The Spurs have struggled in big matches and have wasted to many opportunities, which ultimately cost them the spot in the standings. The most recent patch, however, enabled Mauricio Pochettino’s men to get back i…

Prediction: Atletico Madrid vs Granada

Best odds: 4/7

Bookmaker:

Atletico Madrid will be playing host to Granada at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium on Saturday evening, in what will be the 23rd La Liga game for both teams, potentially harder to predict than it might appear at first glance.

Atletico Madrid

Though undoubtedly favorites on paper, Atletico haven t exactly been on sparkling form recently. They haven t been able to register a single win in any competition in a month now, not since they beat Barcelona in the Supercoppa de Espana semifinal in early January. They lost the final to Real Madrid, and the city rivals confirmed that triumph last week when they met in the league. In the meantime, they managed to get beaten in the Copa del Rey by third-tier side Cultural Leonesa, as well as by Eiba…

European round-up: Pellegrini safe for another week?

Safe for another week?

La Liga

Just when you thought that Barcelona were over their very minor blip and were going to run away with the league over a Real Madrid side that can’t keep a clean sheet and were going to sack their manager, guess what goes and happens. Barcelona get held to a 1-1 draw at mid-table Osasuna whilst Real Madrid win 2-0 over mid-table Getafe and close the gap at the top to one point.

Barcelona looked good for all three points when Keita put them ahead with seventeen minutes to go but a Pique own goal deep into injury-time cost them the win.

Real had a relatively comfortable win thanks to two second half goals from Higuain, despite being reduced to ten men on the half hour when Albiol saw red.

Sevilla and Valencia both had …

Mata happy at Manchester United under Mourinho

Juan Mata says he feels important and happy at Manchester United and outlined his frustration at a summer of speculation linking him with a move away.

Jose Mourinho s arrival at Old Trafford led to a raft of stories suggesting Mata s future lay elsewhere with the pair having a frosty relationship when they worked together at Chelsea prior to the Spain international s move to United in January 2014.

But Mata has been a key player for Mourinho over recent weeks, his form enough to land the club s player of the month award for October.

Asked if he had discussed his role at United with Mourinho, Mata told talkSPORT: No. It all goes naturally.

Obviously people want to know what is happening inside football or try to imagine what is happening inside but most o…

Bonucci: Juventus´ rivals should be worried

Leonardo Bonucci has warned Juventus rivals that the reigning Serie A champions will only get better over the course of the season.

Massimiliano Allegri s men sit top of the table after 12 games, holding a four-point lead over Roma, but have yet to hit their best form.

Bonucci sees no reason for concern, though, and is confident they will progress further over the coming months.

We have not been playing great, but it is only November and there is plenty of time to improve. That is one of our objectives, Bonucci told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Right now, collecting points is all that matters and then toward January, February, we can show a bit more. The other teams should be worried.

Juve have dominated Serie A in recent years, winning the title f…

Hazard vows ´the old Eden will come back´ once ´delicate´ Real Madrid situation resolved

Eden Hazard has vowed he will return to his best form once his delicate situation at Real Madrid has been resolved.

The Belgium international showed flashes of quality during his 65 minutes on the field in his country s 2-1 Nations League win over Wales on Thursday.

That was the longest Hazard has played in a single match this season, having been restricted to just one start across Madrid s nine matches, each of those ending in victory.

Hazard s place in Belgium s line-up has been called into question ahead of the World Cup, and the ex-Chelsea forward acknowledged he needs to be playing more regularly.

I was happy to start another match, he told RTL. You saw that, I think. I m happy when I play and it was nice to play for the supporters here [in Brussels…

Tottenham eyeing Ibrahim Afellay

that Tottenham are prepared to take a gamble with Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay.

Spurs plan to further reinforce the squad in the January transfer window and they are reportedly pondering a loan move for the Dutch midfielder.

Afellay has finally resumed full training following an 18-month spell on the sidelines, and he is widely tipped to be farmed out on loan by the end of the month.

The 27-year-old could need quite a while to regain his form and fitness, so Tottenham s interest in the player certainly comes as a surprise.

Afellay had been regarded as one of Europe s top midfielders when he left PSV Eindhoven for Barcelona in January 2011, but he has only managed 20 La Liga appearances for the Catalans.
