Argentina favourite for U-20 World Cup

Argentina have been drawn in Group F alongside England, Mexico, Korea DPR for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia later this year.

The tournament will run from July 29 to August 20, with Argentina, who have won the trophy five of the last eight times, expected to be in the tournament right until the business end.

Argentina s chances of victory are boosted by the fact that defending champion Ghana, who beat Brazil 4-3 in penalties in the 2009 tournament in Canada, failed to qualify.

Walter Perazzo s side may face a serious threat in England, early in the tournament, while Korea DPR will be no easy beats themselves, having beaten Australia 3-2 in the AFC Under-19 Championship in China last year.

Brazil, considered another favourite, will open the competiti…

Sunderland v Swansea City: Trio could return for hosts

Sunderland are set to be buoyed by a trio of returning players for their Premier League clash with Swansea City at the Stadium of Light.

Gus Poyet s men lost 2-1 to Stoke City in the League Cup on Tuesday, but could see forwards Steven Fletcher and Connor Wickham, as well as midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini, return from knocks.

Defender Sebastian Coates, however, will likely miss out through injury after being substituted at half-time during his club debut on Tuesday.

We have a few injuries for the first time in the season, with Steven Fletcher out and Connor Wickham pulling out [on Tuesday] morning – it is nothing serious but it is another player we lost at the front and we hope we can recover and be stronger on Saturday, Poyet said after their cup defeat.

Arsenal 4/6 to beat Sheffield United in Sunday’s Premier League showdown

Market: Arsenal win

Odds: 4/6 @

Hoping to build off of their Anfield victory in midweek, Arsenal will turn their attention back to Premier League duties when Sheffield United come to North London on Sunday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Arsenal might have seen Liverpool end their 100% start to the season on Monday night, the Gunners did manage to pick up some Merseyside revenge in midweek. Booking their spot in the quarter-finals of this year s EFL Cup thanks to penalties victory against the defending champions, there is no doubt that Mikel Arteta s side have made a string of improvements since appointing Pep Guardiola s former right-hand man last year. Already claiming both the FA Cup and Community Shield titles at an empty Wembley over the summer, i…

Van der Vaart not ruling out QPR move

Rafael van der Vaart has not ruled out being reunited with Harry Redknapp but has not made any contact with the QPR manager.

Van Der Vaart enjoyed a successful spell under Redknapp at Tottenham between 2010 and 2012, but denied having any discussions with his former boss amid reports linking him with QPR.

The 31-year-old did hint, however, that he would be prepared for a second spell in the capital if the opportunity arises.

He told BILD: Harry Redknapp has not been in touch with me. He has not phoned me.

In football you never know, but so far we have not been in touch.

Ajax striker Mounir El Hamdaoui is reportedly on the verge of joining Serie A outfit Fiorentina.

The Morocco international, who made his name with AZ before joining the Eredivisie champions, won the Dutch Footballer of the Year award in 2008/09.

Despite this, the 27-year-old has become a fringe figure at the Amsterdam ArenA this term with coach Frank de Boer overlooking the African marksman, and Sky Sports 24 have reported that he has flown to Italy for a medical.

Italian press report Delio Rossi s men are eager to bolster their attacking options after the departure of Alberto Gilardino to Genoa and, despite the addition of Amauri at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, El Hamdaoui appears set to be recruited.
