BREAKING NEWS: Manchester United confirm Valdes exit

Manchester United have confirmed that goalkeeper Victor Valdes has left the club to join Standard Liege on loan until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old has not played since the final day of the Premier League last season after being frozen out of the first team by manager Louis van Gaal and departs having made just two appearances.

Valdes posted a message of thanks to what he described as the Man Utd family on Thursday and the former Barcelona man s exit has now been confirmed.

The keeper was removed from involvement with the first-team squad by Van Gaal after he accused him of refusing to play for the Under-21 side something the player himself has always strenuously denied.

Rangers boost knockout hopes with Europa League win over Sparta Prague

Rangers moved clear into second place in Europa League Group C with what turned out to be a nervy 2-1 win over Sparta Prague at Ibrox.

The two sides fought out a goalless draw in the Czech Republic last month but it took only 11 minutes for Brazilian striker Danilo to get the breakthrough before midfielder Todd Cantwell added a second in the 20th minute.

The visitors smartened up after the break however, with substitute Lukas Haraslin reducing the deficit in the 77th minute and although Danilo soon had the ball in the net again it was ruled out after VAR check for a foul and in the end the home players and fans were glad to hear the final whistle.
